Vastu shastra plays an important role while designing and constructing a home. 1. Doorway/ Main Entrance

According to Vastu Shastra, the main door should face North, East or North-East direction and the door should open in a clock wise direction. Moreover, the entrance should always be well lit. Though fountain at the entrance looks appealing, but it should be avoided. Few more things that should be avoided are: black paint on the door, dustbin, animal statues and a washroom near to the main entrance. Torrans are believed to bring good luck. This is the reason why people during festivals and otherwise also hang torrans at the main entrance.

Also known as sitting room or lounge, living room plays several roles. It could be used for reunions, family gathering or could be joined with dining area or turned into a recreational room. It is important to decorate it in a way that it influences positivity and peace in the home. Directions like East, North, North-West, North-East and South-West are ideal for constructing living room. These directions are considered good for social gatherings and pooja room, since most of the people plan puja room in the living room. Make sure the entrance of the room is not in South, since it is inauspicious. Place your TV in the South- East corner, and landline in East, South-East or North and air conditioner in North-East, North-West and West. Avoid portraits of war and crime and look for light and neutral colors for walls and furniture in square or rectangle, to maximize the space.

3. Kitchen

Considered as the heart of the home, kitchen should attain utmost positivity. The ideal location for kitchen is South-East corner while the burner should be placed in South-East direction. Sink and taps should be placed away from the burner or cooking stove; North-East is the perfect location for water flow. Windows or air hole and exhaust fans are kitchen essentials; these could be placed in East and South direction of the kitchen. For appliances such as heaters, microwave and oven South-East or South direction is the most ideal. Colors like chocolate brown, yellow, green, red and orange add positivity to the kitchen where as black color is considered as a symbol of negativity. Also, the wall of the kitchen should not share the wall with toilet or bathroom.

4. Bedroom

Bedroom is a place where you spend most of your time so the space should advocate privacy. According to Vastu Shastra, the bed room in South-West direction is considered good since it embarks prosperity, longevity and good health. For kids room, East or North-West zones are best. Mirrors should not be placed in front of the bed as the reflection of the sleeping body is considered inauspicious. Devices like television; computer radiates negative energy so these should be prohibited in the bed room. Dark colors make your room look small and cluttered; therefore, one should go for light colors like off white, cream, baby pink.

5. Washroom

A bathroom could be placed in the East direction. Wooden door is best for bathrooms as metal door reflects negativity and could have a negative effect on the health. Make sure the door of the bathroom is always closed and does not have statues attached. Moreover, the washroom should not share a wall with kitchen or pooja room.
